SF Legal Collects Two Terabytes from 30 Custodians for NY Law Firm
In today's digital age, many law firms look to data professionals such as SF Legal to help ensure that they have the support and expertise they need when preparing for discovery and trial. This gives them the confidence that the electronic data they require will be handled correctly and on time, leaving them to focus on their expertise—practicing law.
A New York law firm was in such a position recently regarding an antitrust case. They needed a partner that could extend its reach to Sacramento to help them gather data on behalf of their client. SF Legal went onsite to capture electronic data from 30 custodians. The data resided on an exchange server, a back-up server, and individual PCs. In total, SF Legal collected two terabytes of data.
At the direction of counsel, SF Legal didn't use key words to reduce the data set size for roughly half of the custodians. Instead, they collected the entire My Docs folders for these custodians, which ranged from 60 to 290 gigabytes.
For the remaining custodians, the law firm asked SF Legal to do a targeted collection. Leveraging its new software tool, a proprietary solution 18 months in development, SF Legal gathered data sets ranging from 60 to 600 megabytes in less than 75 percent of the time typically required for this type of harvesting.
By using this new unprecedented software, SF Legal reduced the amount of time required to collect the data and significantly lowered the cost of collection and downstream processing. Post collection, SF Legal assisted with data filtering and processing prior to review, demonstrating the value of end-to-end support from a single partner.

We processed and web hosted the data while Black Letter Discovery reviewed close to a million pages in a week, with two shifts working around the clock in a dedicated facility. Read More...
Another Paper Discovery Challenge Solved
"I sent SF Legal a CD with original files from our client. I asked them to print all documents in black and white from native files, including Bates numbering. These documents had to be formatted to maximize legibility and minimize review time. Plus they had to be clipped together according to the email, attachments clipped to the corresponding email, and everything banded together per folder. SF Legal delivered everything by 10 a.m. the next morning. Thanks SFL for the great and timely work."
